This private executive roundtable provided a candid and practical view of how Commonwealth Departments and Agencies were approaching AI, recognising both the value already being realised and the challenges that remained.
The discussion explored where AI was delivering tangible benefits, what was influencing the pace and scale of adoption, and how government could balance innovation with governance, accountability, procurement, risk, and public trust.
Drawing on Dr Ian Oppermann’s experience across data, technology, and regulation, the session also considered how a major regulator approached AI from two perspectives: as an organisation seeking to use the technology effectively, and as a regulator considering its broader implications.
The session was practical and peer-led, providing an opportunity for senior leaders to exchange experiences and insights rather than serving as a formal policy discussion or technology showcase.
