Defence & Security Dialogue Queensland

26 Aug 2025

The executive discussion featured Amelia Linzey, Chief Executive Officer of Beca, who shared perspectives on the future shape of Auckland and planning for long-term growth. The conversation examined how the city could balance urban intensification and outward growth while maintaining liveability, amenity and a clear long-term vision for development.

Leaders explored the evolution of Auckland’s planning framework, including approaches to urban growth, housing supply, infrastructure sequencing and the challenges of out-of-sequence development. The discussion also considered the significant investment required to maintain and expand Auckland’s infrastructure, alongside the role of value capture, funding models and integrated planning in addressing existing infrastructure deficits.

The conversation further examined CBD revitalisation, community assets, parks and urban amenity, as well as potential local government and resource management reforms. The session provided valuable perspectives on the planning and policy choices shaping Auckland’s growth, resilience and future prosperity.
