Beyond the Waiting Room: Healthcare, Productivity and New Zealand’s Future In conversation with Brad Porter, Chief Executive Officer, Orion Health

13 Oct 2026

12pm-2pm NZDT

New Zealanders will head to the polls this year to decide the country’s future at a time when our population is ageing rapidly. With the number of people aged 65 and over projected to reach one million by 2029, the health system will face growing demand while the economy depends on people being able to participate fully in work, family and community life. Yet when healthcare is difficult to access, fragmented between providers or inefficient to navigate, people can remain unwell for longer and the consequences extend far beyond the health system.

Drawing on his experience working with health systems around the world, Orion Health CEO Brad Porter explores the cost of delayed and disconnected care, why businesses and New Zealanders at large have more at stake than they may realise, and why healthcare belongs at the centre of the economic and productivity debates.
